2017 is ready to rock. It’s official.
Have you decided that this year is going to be different? better? totally knock your socks off? It’s easy to set goals in January and, as a personal trainer and health coach, I’ve taken hundreds of people through lifestyle modification programs. So I know what I’m telling you is true…
Goals are not the secret to success.
Stick with me here, because this is going to change everything no matter WHAT YOUR GOALS ARE.
Even planning out your success is not the secret. I was just on a call last night that was helping me map out my next 90 days and what I need to do to create more growth in my business.
I realized I have done this many many times, but I never FOLLOW THROUGH. Yeah, sure, maybe for a month everything is perfect, but then I lose my momentum. I start blowing things off I don’t want to do, and low and behold, I don’t get very far.
So, I asked myself, Why don’t I follow through?
Deep down I could feel the answer percolating but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I knew it was related to fear, but I never could really identify what I am afraid OF. It’s just that unsettling feeling of knowing that you’ve done this before and it never worked out so why should it work out this time?
Then, it came to the surface like a really satisfying belch.
Inevitably, when we reach for higher ground there comes a point where we have to stretch ourselves, and reach past what we wouldn’t do before. Most times we say “I can’t do that or I don’t want to do that or its not worth it.” But, that isn’t true. IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT AND YOU KNOW IT!!!!! But, you back off and, well I hate to be harsh, but we fail.
This is not a bad thing, except that we turn on ourselves and feel like a complete loser. All along, though, it is a mentality of “I can’t” or victim that holds us back.
It’s not our fault. We forgot how freaking amazing we are and how much power we wield to accomplish great things. Do you believe in G-d? or in a Higher Power? Do you think that infinite source of love and energy made you imperfect? Well, for me, the answer in my head says yes. I mean, come on! I’m not perfect! I say the wrong thing, I never got straight A’s, and there’s a lot of stuff that I said I was going to do but didn’t.
If there is only one thing that I learned last year, it’s that we are perfect and we can do ANYTHING!
And, we have been brainwashed to believe otherwise by people who didn’t know any better. You just have to go with that. Believe it. You are perfect. You can logicize the hell out of your failures, but it’s all perception. Don’t you learn anything from those failures? Don’t they make you think and grow and look at life differently? Why are we so hard on ourselves?
Reaching to be better, do more, help more people, make a bigger difference in the world takes some stepping out. It takes faith and change in how we think of ourselves. Achieving something NEW means you need to step out and DO something new, which feels scary. Even thinking about it can be scary, but it’s time to acknowledge that that scary feeling isn’t serving us anymore.
So here is my challenge (to myself and to you):
Step out. We have TONS to share with the world. The world is waiting to see what you have deep down inside!
When we do that, we are guaranteed success in EVERYTHING!
